Happy Friday, everyone. Today, I take you along as I go Shopping Dillard’s for my daughter’s special events.
Even in San Antonio, you might have found us shopping Dillard’s for special events. It has been a favorite for a long time.
So, when Jess called and said she wanted us to go shopping Dillard’s for a black tie function and some special meetings ahead, of course I was in.
I was reminded of the times we shopped for banquets and proms during her high school years. But, this was more fun and we are more on the same page now.
A little about Jess…she does not really like attention and modeling in this post was a stretch for her. She was a trooper though, because we had not planned for photos.
I sprung the idea on her after we got to the store and she agreed to show the dresses…though we only showed the ones worthy to be seen.
Like many of us, she really is two women with her style.
For a black tie event, she is chic, classic, elegant, and understated.
For her casual, she often leans toward bohemian artsy. She says she gets that from me.
So let’s go shopping Dillard’s for her special events…we will start with the black tie function.
SHOPPING DILLARD’S FOR MY DAUGHTER’S SPECIAL EVENT: A BLACK TIE EVENING AT A MUSEUM

Jess is a size 2 in some dresses, and size 4 in others….I might have been born close to that…but I have never known the joys of being this small.
She looks good in almost anything…but we were shopping Dillard’s for a WOW., and Dillard’s Dresses are a great place to go to find the wow.
I am going to show you what she tried on and why they did not work for her….with the one that was the WOW at the bottom.
Another thing to note is that she has not had her colors done…I hope to help her do that someday soon. She pulls what she likes and it is a little all over the map of color.
Finally, we were pressed for time. Her black tie event is Saturday, and we were shopping Dillard’s on Thursday. But, I was confident we would find something there.
First up, is the GIANNI BINI Cheyanne Satin 3D Rosettes Cutout Round Neck Sleeveless Ruched Slip Maxi Dress.
Both of us thought this almond color would look good on her…but it did not. Also, she said she wanted to rip the rosettes right off of the dress. I agree, it would look better without.
Please note: After we found the dress, we went to lingerie for a new strapless bra!
My comment on this one was, “You need something more elegant than this.”
It is the GIANNI BINI Haven Satin Leopard Print V-Neck Sleeveless Full Length Slip Dress.
She loved the color of this dress, so it went to the dressing room.
My comment? It looks too much like a nightgown….was I being too harsh? Maybe it would have worked with the right accessories.
This is the GIANNI BINI Haven Satin V-Neck Sleeveless Maxi Slip Dress.
We both loved this dress! But they only had a 2, and she needed a 4 in order to be comfortable for the black tie event.
Dillard’s could not get it from another store in time…but it was a WOW.
This is the ANTONIO MELANI Ix Style Bungalow The Park View Sheath Sleeveless Detachable Belt…we liked it without the belt.
Very chic dress.
I thought this eggplant had great potential.
But, she did not…and I told her don’t buy something you do not feel confident and fabulous in.
This is the XSCAPE Petite Size Asymmetrical Neck Short Sleeve Sheath Gown.

She wanted to try on this pink, but acknowledged that we only say one of these in store.
In a small town, it is possible that other dresses were purchased for this black tie event…and she really did not want to have on the same dress as others.
I am showing you the back online, so you can see those pleats along the top of the skirt…these were not flattering at all and added weight to this skinny young woman.
It was a hard no for me.
We have a WOW winner.
Jess looked fabulous in this deep green velvet, off the shoulder gown, and it fit her like a glove.
Sorry, I know this isn’t the best picture, but hopefully on Sunday, I can show you how she looked for the event.
She splurged on the WOW dress, and was able to find lovely shoes and gold chandelier earrings at 65% off on the discount racks.
She is prudent.
The winning dress is the XSCAPE Velvet Off The Shoulder Split Neck Long Sleeve Pleated Front Gathered Back Gown in hunter green.
SHOPPING DILLARD’S FOR MY DAUGHTER’S SPECIAL EVENT: MORE CASUAL ATTIRE
When I am shopping Dillard’s, my eyes are always roaming to see if there is anything I do not want to miss.
When I saw this Vince Camuto Dress, I knew it was perfect for her. This will look so good with a black bootie.
This is the VINCE CAMUTO Long Sleeve Mock Neck Studded Fit And Flare Dress.
She has several work occasions that this dress would give her confidence to own the room.
Jess wanted to try something like this on, just to see if she preferred the separates over a dress.
We did not.
However, this skirt was so flattering and style forward on her, that we decided to get one in burgundy to wear with a denim jacket and boots.
The fit on her was amazing.
It is the CHELSEA & VIOLET Asta Tulle Midi Skirt and the color she purchased is mulberry.
Her husband liked everything she brought home, so for this event Shopping Dillard’s was a success and my work is done until next time.
I have a gold beaded clutch of Jess’s grandmother’s and she is going to carry that with the green dress. It will be perfect and she was the apple of that grandmother’s eye.
Thanks for joining me today for Shopping Dillard’s for my daughter’s special events…I hope to see you tomorrow for the next 2025 fashion trends…until then…
KEEP SMILING!
